Maintenance Aisle – boat maintenance and boat supplies
The best thing for boat maintenance is to clean it and clean it often. Boat supplies and boat equipment take second place to boat maintenance so make sure your boat is cleaned when you are mooring her or keeping her on a boat trailer. Since most boats are usually out in the weather, dirt and grime are accumulating this very moment (yes, your boat is getting dirtier as you read this sentence.) Don't forget to check your dock lines and everything to which they attach. Rope is fairly tough, so tough that people stop checking them with any regularity. Unfortunately many people don't understand this concept and expend more resources down the road for maintenance and repair. More yacht supplies and yacht equipment doesn't keep the boat running well as much as regular cleaning. The best boat maintenance is preventive maintenance and the best preventive maintenance is cleaning your boat after docking.

Wipe everything down and then after you are done, move every moving part is accessible. That sounds weird but it really does help. Many things on a boat, out in the elements, can be used for years but can only be left in disuse for a short period of time. Open every window, turn every knob, hit every switch, move every lever – you get the idea. Go over your entire boat after docking and do this. Moving an item once is all you need – you don't have to stand there working a lever for a long period of time. Once is enough for most items. If you do come across something that is frozen, work it and lubricate it until it works properly.
Don't forget to maintain your comfort as well. We have items like coffee makers and blenders to make your boating an activity that includes the creature comforts. Sunrise with a hot cup of joe and sunset with a smoothie makes having a boat that much better. |
