To create the best professional boat detailing results you must make sure your boat has all gel coat oxidation removed before applying a protective coating of boat wax or marine sealant. You can tell if the surface of your boat is oxidized by firstly the lack of shine, and even worse a chalky residue which is literally the gel coat disintegrating! Marine rubbing compounds have different strengths depending on the how much oxidation needs to be removed. Rubbing compounds can also be used as a scratch remover and polisher after boat repair and refinishing work.

How to Apply

Application of marine rubbing compounds can be by hand or by machine, however better results can less effort is needed for machine applications. To apply, add a small amount of the marine rubbing compound of your choice the the surface of your boat, place the bad of your buffer onto the rubbing compound and start the machine. Using medium pressure, move the machine in a figure of eight motion, gradually reducing pressure until the marine rubbing compound has been buffed out. Remove the remaining residue using a microfiber towel.

For hand applications, apply rubbing compound to the surface of your boat using a wax applicator, rub into the surface using circular motion with high pressure, then wipe off with a soft clean cloth or microfiber towel.
